Welcome to the official page of the Syrian Telemental Health Network.
The Syrian Telemental Health Network is a pilot collaborative project that aims to establish models for delivery of mental health consultations, education, and training as capacity-buildin for health care workers in the Syrian conflict setting.
This website includes information about the past projects of this network, and resources for active members and partners, in addition to connections for institutions who would like to replicate the use of technology in resource-limited settings.
In our pilot project, this network used technology to connect health care workers in the Syrian conflict setting with mental health specialists around the world to receive advice and training on providing mental health care. It is the case that many health care workers in humanitarian settings will manage patients who are under stress, are traumatized or manifest mental illness. Managing those cases in these settings is usually challenging due to limited resources and lack of supervision and training.
We have demonstrated a successful model for delivery of mental health capacity building efforts in conflict settings using platform (Collegium Telemedicus). Contact us if your organization is interested in replicating this model.
Part of the mission of this network, we have provided a series of lectures on relevant practical mental health issues. You may review past lecture videos posted in the training and resources page (Videos are only in Arabic)
The platform we used to provide the capacity-building approaches (training, education, mental health consultations) is called COLLEGIUM TELEMEDICUS.
COLLEGIUM TELEMEDICUS is a platform that helps connecting Health Care Workers who are in the field and refugee camps (Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon) with mental health specialists around the globe.
COLLEGIUM TELEMEDICUS provides a safe platform for clinical cases to be transferred and long-term supervision and education to be delivered using the internet.
COLLEGIUM TELEMEDICUS has been used by NGOs such as Médicines Sans Frontières (MSF) to provide advice and consultations to their physicians in the field. The platform consists of a safe server through which referring health-care providers can send clinical material about certain cases to specialists within the network. It is a “non-live” (i.e., asynchronous) means of communication. Clinical material, and educational responses are transmitted via the platform.
The English pages of this website are intended to introduce the project and the network to a wide variety of audiences, and allow interested institutions and organizations to learn about our model for delivery of telemental health services.
The Arabic pages on this website contain additional resources and guidelines for participants in the network.
Attention: Our network provide assistance to healthcare workers to build their capacity to manage mental health issues. Thus, our network do NOT provide direct clinical services to patients. If you are a refugee facing stress and mental health issues we direct you to the many mental health services provided by UNHCR directory based on your country of stay. Visit the Syria Regional Refugee Response page.
